Tree of The MonthCommon Name: Flowering Plum
The Flowering Plum is often one of the first flowering trees in our area to put on a showy display of color. We carry four main varieties: Krauter Vesuvius, Purple Pony, Thunder Cloud and Blireiana. Flowering Plums make great small patio or garden trees that stay under 25 feet. Their purple foliage makes a great accent of color during spring and summer. Krauter Vesuvius, Purple Pony, and Thunder Cloud all have a single pale pink blossom like the picture above and hold their dark purple leaf color into fall. Blireiana has a showier, more fragrant double flower, but its leaves fade from purple to a coppery green. Unfortunately Blirieana is also prone to Shot Hole fungus which gives its leaves a tattered look through the summer. Travis Woodard
