Herbaceous shrubby vine. This clematis does not cling or climb. Stems are self-supporting at first and become somewhat woody with age. Blooms spring through summer. Flowers are violet-blue with a greenish-yellow center. This type of Clematis dies to the ground and will regrow from ground level each year. Prune off all stems in late winter of early spring before new growth appears. Regular water needs in well-drained soil once established.
