Description

Deciduous shrub. California native also found as far north as British Columbia and into Montana. The common name ninebark refers to its multi-layered peeling bark. Deep green leaves are deeply veined, similar in appearance to currants. White flowers bloom in spring and summer then turn into reddish seed capsules. Tolerates most soils but will be happier with well-drained, acidic soil. Moderate water needs one established.
